Members of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Guyana met with Minister of Public Health and Chairperson of the People’s Nation Congress Reform, Hon. Volda Lawrence on Thursday, February 6, 2020.
According to Chief Observer Urmas Paet who is also a Member of the European Parliament, the purpose of the meeting with the minister is in keeping with their mission to observe free and fair elections.
“I am listening mainly to hear how the minister sees the situation in Guyana a few weeks before elections, what are concerns for her party… I hope that everything goes fine with the elections, that it be free and fair and that citizens in Guyana who should vote that they can do so, expressing freely their political will.” Paet noted.
He said similar meetings with representatives from other parties will be facilitated.
The European Union Election Observation Mission to Guyana 2020 is expected to issue a preliminary statement and host a press conference after elections. Also, a final report stating recommendations for future elections will be made available following the elections.
