President of the General Workers’ Union, Noris Witter, has alleged that the current system, which exempts officials in Guyana’s political Sphere, as well as oil companies from paying income taxes is discriminatory. He is therefore calling for the abolition of Pay As You Earn taxes which he says continue to be a burden on low-wage working families. Temika Rodney tells us more.
