JOINT PROBE ONGOING FOR SEVERAL GUYANESE FACING DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES OVERSEAS

The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) is making significant efforts to extradite several individuals currently under investigation for drug-related crimes. The individuals are believed to have been involved in importing and distributing illegal narcotics in the country.

According to a statement by CANU, the agency has been working closely with international law enforcement partners to gather evidence and build strong cases against the suspects. The statement also revealed that several arrest warrants had been issued for the suspects, believed to be hiding out of the country.

CANU has not disclosed the suspects’ names or the specific charges they are facing, but they assured the public that they are committed to bringing them to justice. The agency urged anyone with information about the suspects or their whereabouts to come forward and contact them.

This is not the first time Guyanese citizens have been involved in drug trafficking. In recent years, the country has become a significant transshipment point for illegal narcotics, with traffickers taking advantage of its long coastline and porous borders.
