Police said a male juvenile was arrested after he was caught with 20 grams of suspected narcotics on Wednesday, around 9:30 a.m. at Orealla Village, Corentyne River, Berbice.
According to a press release, officers were conducting patrol duty in the said area when they observed the young man acting in a suspicious manner. As a result, the ranks called out to him and he began running in the opposite direction.
“The ranks gave chase and caught up with him. A bulky brown bag that was thrown in some nearby bushes by the youth was retrieved and opened in his presence which revealed a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to narcotics,” the release stated.
“He was told of the offence, cautioned and escorted to the Orealla Police Station, where the suspected narcotic was weighed and amounted to 20 grams. Investigation ongoing,” the release added.
