In just two weeks, the U.S. Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team (LAMAT) 2025 mission in Guyana has delivered an extraordinary boost to the nation’s healthcare sector—treating over 6,000 patients and performing over 400 surgeries across multiple regions.
The LAMAT initiative, part of ongoing U.S.-Caribbean cooperation, deployed a team of medical professionals and specialists who worked alongside local health authorities to provide critical medical services, including primary care, dental procedures, eye exams, and life-saving surgeries.
“This mission is a testament to what can be achieved through international collaboration,” a local health official said.
The outreach served residents in remote and underserved areas, helping to reduce the backlog of medical cases and providing much-needed relief to Guyana’s strained public health system.
LAMAT also conducted training sessions with local medical personnel, helping to build capacity and improve long-term patient care delivery.
