A woman and her children are now contemplating their next move after their landlord allegedly started a fire in his room in a bid to get them to leave his residence since the woman was reportedly served a lawyer’s letter in this regard but failed to comply.

The fire took place on Sunday (yesterday) around 19:00h at the home of 56-year-old Mumtaz Ali located at lot 152 Better Hope village, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

A police statement noted that the man set the fire “due to a conflict” between himself and the female tenant

“On the date and time mentioned the tenant and her children were selling food when the observed smoke coming from the house. They claim that they saw the landlord running from the house into the neighbour’s yard. The fire department was summoned and managed to put out the fire with only damages being done to the house.”
