Man beaten, robbed of cash then thrown out of “taxi”

A man, who had left his sisters residence in the wee hours of today (Monday) to return to his house was allegedly beaten by a ‘taxi driver’ called “Robin” inside of the man’s mauve Toyota Fielder Wagon vehicle before he was robbed of $20,000 in cash and thrown outside of the car onto the roadway.

The man, identified as Ali Mohamed, had been visiting his sister’s home located in Tuschen Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) and around 01:50h today, walked towards the “blacka” junction to await transportation so that he could return to his residence.

HGP Nightly News understands that shortly after arriving at the above-mentioned junction, he was able to “stop a mauve Toyota Fielder Wagon” and he entered the car upon telling the driver where he was heading.

According to a police statement, at that time, there was another male seated in the back passenger seat behind the driver.

“While he was in the vicinity of Tuschen blacka, he noticed that the driver turned the corner right of the junction and stopped. It was at that stage, the victim claimed that he was dealt several cuffs about his body by the taxi driver known as Robin and the other unidentifiable male, and during the process he was relieved of the cash mentioned. He was subsequently thrown out of the vehicle, after which the two suspects both escaped in the said vehicle made good their escape in an eastern direction.”

The police stated that checks were made for the suspects and the vehicle but they were not yet located while several persons in the area have been questioned in relation to the matter.

Investigations continue.
