A 45-year-old man was chopped to his head and dealt several lashes about his body by one (1) of two cutlass-wielding bandits, who stormed into his home in the wee hours of Saturday (today) with their gun-toting accomplice, and him of cash and valuables.
The injured man was identified as Eyon Campbell of Buzz Bee Dam, Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
HGP Nightly News understands that the alleged armed robbery took place around 02:30h today and resulted in the man being robbed of $350,000 in cash, one DVD player, one 42-inch Sony television and one black Samsung J2 Core cellular phone valued at $35,000.
According to a statement from the police, Campbell lives alone in a flat concrete structure with a fenced yard and on Friday (yesterday) he secured his home and retired to his bed around 21:00h.
“About 02:30 hours, he was awoken by footsteps in his bedroom and was subsequently confronted by the three assailants who demanded cash and valuables.
The victim immediately handed over his money mentioned, but they demanded further cash which the victim indicated he did not have. One of the armed assailants then dealt the victim a chop to his head and several lashes about his body causing him to receive injuries.”
The cops stated that the three (3) perpetrators then further relieved Campbell of the other articles mentioned and made good their escape through a Northern door which they had used to gain entry into the house.
“The victim thereafter proceeded to the Woodlands Hospital where he sought medical treatment for his injuries and was subsequently discharged. A report was lodged and ranks from Golden Grove Police Station visited the scene. Investigations are in progress.”
