Man chopped to head with cutlass after allegedly assaulting pedal cyclist for “light in face”

A man was chopped to his head with a cutlass late last night by a pedal cyclist whom he allegedly assaulted during an argument after he accused the man of “shining a light in his face”.

The injured man has been identified as Chandradat Chandradeo of Line Path, Corriverton, Berbice, while the suspect is said to be a 52-year-old male.

HGP Nightly News understands that the incident occurred around 22:10h at the above-mentioned village.

According to a police statement, the suspect was riding to work and while passing Chandradeo’s home, the now injured man “suddenly snatched him” and accused hii of shining his light in his (Chandradeo’s) face.

“An argument ensued and the victim pulled the suspect off the bicycle causing him to receive injuries.The suspect then became annoyed and took a cutlass that was on his bicycle and dealt the victim one chop to his head causing him to receive injuries.

The victim was taken to Skeldon Public hospital in an unconscious state where he was treated by a Doctor on duty and transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital.”

The suspect is in custody assisting with the investigation.
