MAN DIES AFTER BEING BEATEN BY BANDITS

  • Elderly mother also assaulted

Outar Ramphal, 50, of Lot 54 Princeton, Corriverton, Berbice, was pronounced dead on arrival at The Skeldon Hospital after bandits invaded their home and handed them a sound thrashing. Reports are that the man and his elderly mother were at their Princeton, Corriverton home on Sunday evening when four men entered their abode and demanded cash. Three of the four men were reportedly armed with guns. The gunmen beat the occupants of the house after they were somewhat reluctant to aid them in their plunder.

Ramphal’s mother, recollecting the details of the evening, noted that she, her son and her great grandson were at home sleeping when they were attacked by the gunmen. The woman related that she was tied up and her mouth was covered. The woman even received a stab wound while resisting the advances of the bandits. She said at the same time she was being assaulted by two of the bandits, her son, Outar, was being beaten in his room by the other two.

Outar received several chops about his body in the process. The elderly woman noted that it was until after the bandits left that she was able to run downstairs to solicit help, which initially was not available. Outar subsequently died and leaves to mourn his mother, two siblings and other relatives and friends
