Man dies after speeding car slams into culvert, wife fighting for life in hospital

A 33-year-old man is now dead while his 30-year-old wife is presently battling for her life at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after the vehicle (PYY 6586) they were travelling in collided with a concrete culvert and landed in a trench.

The deceased has been identified as Vijay Jaigobin, while his badly injured spouse has been identified as Alicia Jaigobin, both of whom resided at Lot 2 ‘C’ Bath Settlement, Berbice.

HGP Nightly News understands that the fatal accident took place around 17:45h on Thursday (yesterday) on the Berbice River Bridge Access Road.

Reports are that the now deceased man had been behind the wheel of the motor car (PYY 6586) and was speeding along the above-mentioned road when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle (PYY 6586).

As a result, Jaigobin’s car (PYY 6586) and slammed into a concrete culvert and ended up in a nearby trench.

“They were both rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in an unconscious state. The driver was pronounced dead on arrival while the passenger – still unconscious – has been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The investigation is ongoing.”
