A 48-year-old man was shot during a robbery at his house, located at Recht-Door-Zee, West Bank Demerara, on Monday afternoon, police said in a news release.
The man is currently in stable condition at the West Demerara Regional Hospital, according to reports.
Police said at about 2:30 p.m., two bandits, one armed with a gun and the other with a knife, jumped the fence and invaded the house.
Police said at that time, the man, along with his 44-year-old wife and her mother, were on the verandah.
The bandits held the wife at gunpoint and took from her $200,000 in cash, a pair of gold-studded earrings, a gold wedding band, a diamond and silver ring and a Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued at $55,000.
Police further reported that the bandit with the knife remained with her while the other bandit with the gun went into the house where he saw her husband in the bedroom and demanded money from him.
It was during this time that police said the bandit shot him in his leg.
The bandits escaped in a waiting vehicle, police.
