Man receives ‘lash to foot’ after refusing to buy alcohol for co-worker

Commander for Regional Division #7 Mr. Dion Moore said police in his division are investigating an alleged ‘inflicting grievous bodily harm’ committed on James Dos Santos, a 30-year-old Supervisor of Pearl, East Bank Demerara by a suspect (male Amerindian) which occurred on 2022-05-15 at about 21:00hrs at Kaburi Village, Essequibo River.

Enquiries revealed that the suspect and the victim are known to each other and they both work at a Logging company in the area.

On the date and time mentioned, the victim was in the company’s truck sleeping when he was awaken by the suspect who asked the victim for some money to buy alcohol to drink.

The victim refused to give him the money and the suspect then picked up an object and dealt the victim one lash to his right leg causing him to collapse to the ground.

The victim raised an alarm and was assisted by members of the village. He was then escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was seen and examined by Dr. Benjamin who diagnosed him suffering from a fracture to the tibia and fibula of his right leg.

The doctor then referred him the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation to undergo further medical attention. His condition is regarded as stable.

Police are looking for the suspect as investigation continues.
