A man was remanded to prison after he appeared in the Sparendaam No. 2 Magistrate’s Court on a narcotics charge.
Police said in a news release that Romel Ramsingh was arrested on Saturday during an intelligence-led police operation in Mon Repos (South) East Coast Demerara.
According to police, a party of police resulted in the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis concealed in a white plastic and tied in a black plastic bag.
Initially, the items were being carried in the hand of the suspect, who upon seeing the ranks, attempted to discard the items into a parked van.
He was apprehended and told of the offence before being arrested and taken to the Beterverwagting Police Station, where the cannabis, which was weighed in his presence, amounted to 3,730 grams.
On Monday, July 19, 2021, Ramsingh was charged for possession of narcotics for the purpose of prafficking, contrary to section 5 (1)(a)(i) of the narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances control act, chap. 10:10.
He appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court 2 before Magistrate A. George, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded to prison until August, 31, 2021.
