Man shot, robbed of $4M in cash while placing gambling at Horse Racing and Sports Betting location

A 60-year-old man was shot to his thigh then allegedly robbed of his haversack containing $4M in cash while placing bets at the All Seasons Horse Racing and Sports Betting located on Robb Street, Lacytown, by a lone gunman on Wednesday (yesterday) afternoon.

The injured man has been identified as Terry Persaud of Herstelling Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Reports are that around 15:00h on the day in question, Persaud was in the process of placing bets at the above-mentioned shop when the suspect approached him and ordered that he hand over his haversack which contained the $4M in cash.

HGP Nightly News understands that at that time, the haversack was on Persaud’s back, and he refused to hand over his belongings to the perpetrator.

As such, the suspect reportedly whipped out a handgun from the waist of his pants and discharged a round in Persaud’s direction. The bullet hit the man to his right upper thigh and the armed bandit quickly snatched Persaud’s haversack with its contents and ran towards the Eastern direction on Robb Street.

According to a police statement, the suspect jumped on a black motorcycle which did not have a registration number and was parked on Robb Street, to aid in his escape after the daring daylight robbery

Meanwhile, a bleeding Persaud was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for emergency medical attention.

He is presently warded at that facility receiving treatment while investigations into the matter continue.
