Calsen Joseph, 32, was on Monday stabbed to death by his drinking buddy during an argument at Puttering Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River.
According to the Police, the incident occurred at about 17:00h, and Joseph and the suspect worked together on a dredge at Puttering Backdam.
On the day in question, Joseph, the suspect and a group of men went to the Puttering Backdam landing and started to imbibe.
The men returned to the camp, during which an argument ensued between the suspect and Joseph, leading to a fight.
They were eventually parted, after which the victim allegedly dealt the suspect one slap.
In retaliation, the suspect hit the victim in the head with a spanner. As a result, Joseph drew a knife from the waist of his pants and attempted to stab the suspect.
But the suspect overpowered him, took away the knife, and stabbed him in the lower left rib. The 32-year-old victim collapsed and shortly after became motionless.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Police observed the victim’s body lying on his back, and when examined, a single stab wound was observed to his left side rib area.
The suspect was arrested and is in custody and being transported to Bartica, along with the deceased’s body, as investigations are underway.
