A 25-year-old fisherman allegedly had his throat slit by his cousin, who is also a fisherman, while they were imbibing with other relatives at Section ‘A’ D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) on Sunday (last) night.
The dead man has been identified as Reaz Mohamed called “Boy” of Section ‘A’ D’Edward Village, WCB.
Reports are that Mohamed became intoxicated on Sunday during the family gathering and around 18:30h, he began to use foul language against his father while physically assaulting the older man.
The suspect allegedly spoke to the now dead man and told him to desist from such actions but Mohamed is said to have continued in the same manner.
According to a police statement, the suspect then became annoyed with his cousin and armed himself with a knife.
“He then allegedly slit the throat of the deceased (cut to the neck) and made good his escape.The Police was summoned and they took the deceased to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. The body is presently at the said hospital Mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).”
Investigations are ongoing.
