Man who murdered School Teacher Girlfriend Charged, Remanded to Prison

For the murder of his 19-year-old girlfriend, Shenese Walks, 21 year old Joel Spooner, was remanded to prison until May, 17, 2022.

On Tuesday, Spooner of Craig, East Bank Demerara appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court. He was not required to plea to the charge.

The 19 year old school teacher of St. Ambrose Primary School in Linden and a mother of one was fatally stabbed to her neck. The incident occurred at Spooner’s house in Craig, EBD on April 13.

According to various reports, the couple shared an abusive relation and had only been together for a few months.

According to the police report, Spooner claimed that during an argument the deceased picked
up a knife and he attempted to take the knife away from her but ended up stabbing her.

He then secured the home and left Walks inside.

He then contacted his brother and his brother as well as his aunt escorted the young man to the Grove Police Station, where he allegedly confessed.

Investigators believe that the 19 year old teacher was killed between 15:30hrs on April 12 and 11:45hrs on April 13.
