Mark Lyte re-elected GTU President


Mark Lyte has been re-elected as President of the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU). The results for the Election for Central Executive Officers at the GTU’s Triennial Elections in 2022 revealed that Lyte secured some 2751. Vanessa Kisson, his main opponent Vanessa Kisson copped 2104.

Lyte, who started his teaching career in 1990, has been in the profession for over 30 years.

Also securing executive positions were Mariska Williams as the First Vice President with 3403 votes; Julian Cambridge as Second Vice President with 3994 votes; General Secretary Coretta McDonald with 2426 votes; and Deputy General Secretary Heathcuff Peters with 1749 votes. The Treasurer who ran unopposed was Sumanta Alleyne. The Regional Vice President for Essequibo was Rabinauth Boodram with 588 votes, while for Berbice- Donnette D’Andre won unopposed and for Demerara Collis Nicholson also won unopposed.
