Mechanic loses finger, sustains several chops to body from machete-wielding suspect

A 44-year-old mechanic lost one of his fingers and is now nursing several chops wounds about his body during a row with a machete-wielding man with whom he had been socialising with on Sunday (yesterday) afternoon.

The injured man has been identified as Andrew Hodge of Byderabo Road, Bartica, Essequibo River and the incident is said to have occurred around 17:30h on the day in question at Kalcoon Village, Mazaruni River.

According to a police statement, the two (2) men became involved in an argument and the suspect picked up a machete and fired multiple chops to both of Hodge’s hands which resulted in the complete severance of one of the mechanic’s fingers.

Hodge is now a patient at the Bartica Regional Hospital in a stable condition.

Police are currently in pursuit of the perpetrator, as investigations continue.
