Miner charged with Firearm and Ammunition possession

Raymond Persaud was on Tuesday September 14 charged and remanded to prison after police found in his possession a firearm and ammunition without license last Sunday.
According to earlier reports, Persaud allegedly fired off several shots at the Aremu Landing after which the police arrived to investigate the issue.
Further, after arriving at the man’s campsite, a search was conducted and ranks found; one 9mm Taurus pistol with serial number filed off along with two magazines, one 9mm live ammunition and two .32 ammunition.
He was subsequently arrested.
Persaud appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty but was remanded to prison.
The case has been put off until October 15, 2021.
