MINER HANDED DOWN ONE YEAR IMPRISONMENT SENTENCE FOR CANNABIS BUST

Robert Vyphuis, a 37-year-old gold miner of Nottinghamshire, Linden, who was busted with over 400 grams of cannabis at Mabura, was handed down a one year imprisonment and slapped a fine of GY$603,600.

He was arrested on Sunday on a motorcycle .

Vyphuis appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on July 5th, 2022 where the charges of Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking: Contrary to Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the  Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Control Act chapter 10:10 committed on Public Justice were read to him.

He pleaded guilty.

According to police headquarters, Vyphuis was arrested on July 03 about 16:10 hours, after police ranks attached to the Mabura Police Outpost intercepted him infront of the Mabura Police Outpost, on a motorcycle.

A search was carried out on the man’s person and his belongings during which a bulky transparent plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotic was found on the motorcycle.

The man was arrested and taken along with the cannabis to the Mabura Police Outpost, where the suspected narcotics was weighed and amounted to 402 grams.
