During a recent visit to the village of Lake Capoey, Region 7, Minister of Social Cohesion the Hon. Dr. George Norton donated cricket gears to aspiring professional cricketers, Elyna Abrahams, 18 and Nafeeza Hendricks, 16.

Elyna represents the region and recently participated in the 2019 Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Female Inter-County Tournament Under- 19 in T20.  She says she wants to “be out there like Chris Gayle.”

Her dream is to further her cricket career and make her community and region proud. She said this can be achieved through her passion and dedication for the game and support of others and her faith in Christ.

Nafaeeza has also represented her Region in the Heritage Games at the Everest Club for the last three years.

“I started to play for some time now with a goal in mind to represent Guyana and I have been training really hard to do exactly that,” Nafeeza said.

According to Minister Norton, it was important for him to encourage their participation as it is part of the department’s mission to promote gender equality in sport.
