Minister of Public Works Urges Residents to Adhere to Curing Times for Concrete Roads in Beterverwagting

The Guyana government has awarded a contract to local construction company HG Construction and Services Inc to comprehensively rehabilitate sections of the main road in Beterverwagting on the East Coast of Demerara. The project aims to enhance the infrastructure, improve the road network, and provide a smoother transportation experience for residents and commuters.

Recently, the Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, visited the community to engage with residents and inspect the ongoing road works. During his visit, the minister stressed the importance of residents following the directions provided by the engineers and officers of the Ministry of Public Works, particularly regarding the temporary closure of roads under rehabilitation, which require specific curing times.

Notably, the concrete roads constructed in Beterverwagting need approximately 14 days to cure, or at least seven days, to achieve optimal strength and durability. Residents must refrain from driving on these roads until the curing process is completed, as any premature usage could compromise the road’s structural integrity.

Minister Edghill’s appeal to the community aims to ensure the successful completion of the road works and the provision of safe and efficient infrastructure for the residents. Adhering to the recommended curing times will contribute to the long-term quality and durability of the roads, benefiting the community for years.
