MINISTER SHOOTS DOWN CLAIMS OF SPORTS FACILITIES BEING ‘WHITE ELEPHANTS”

The Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for sports Honorable Dr.
George Norton shot down claims in Parliament on Wednesday that Sports facilities in the country are “White Elephants”. Colwyn Abrams Reports
The minister in his budget 2019 National Budget Debate shot down the claims
made by the opposition that sports facilities such as the Nation Stadium, National
Aquatic Center and Leonora Track and Field Stadiums have become white
elephants. The minister alluded to the fact that these facilities have in fact been upgraded to international Standards.
The minister pointed to the Guyana National Stadium that has been upgraded
massively since his government has taken office in 2015, minister Norton said the facility was in a state of collapse and had it not been for government intervention the facility would not have been chosen to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The opposition even made mention of the National Aquatic Center which was construct when they had been in power poorly. Minister Norton highlighted that a number of repairs have been made to the facility.
