A 26-year-old porter died Thursday morning on the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), after allegedly colliding with a motor lorry owned by NABI Construction Inc and driven by Mark Bagot.
Dead is Keyon Marshall of Lot 28 Republic Drive, Beterverwagting, ECD. The accident occurred at about 08:20h.
The lorry driver alleged that he exited the NABI Construction Inc compound on the northern side of Success Public Road. While turning east on the southern driving lane, the lorry encountered a mechanical problem and “cut off.”
The driver said he put on the hazard light and exited the vehicle to go into the company’s compound to get another Lorry to move his own in the corner.
However, while standing at the rear of motor lorry GAD 2985, Bagot said he saw motorcycle CK 6014 and another motorcycle speeding down the road, neither wearing safety helmets.
He added that one of the motorcyclists rode his bike CK 6014 straight into the rear portion of the lorry. As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell onto the roadway, receiving injuries on his head and body.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by Police ranks and escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME). The lorry driver is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
