The Guyana Hydrometeorological Service is forecasting increased rainfall and fewer dry days across all regions of the country for the period from May to July 2025. This outlook was presented during the 18th National Climate Outlook Forum held in Georgetown.
According to meteorologist Satesh Nanlall from the National Weather Watch Center (NWWC), shorter dry spells and heightened rainfall intensity are expected during this time, with the majority of Guyana projected to receive above-normal rainfall.
“We’re going to see wetter conditions than usual across the country,” Nandal confirmed.
To enhance local weather prediction capabilities, the NWWC is developing a new Weather and Research Forecasting (WRF) model, which will significantly improve forecast accuracy for Guyana.
“The model will operate at 27km, 9km, and 3km resolutions, with the capability to go as localized as 1km, aiding aviation, agriculture, and disaster preparedness,” NanLalL said.
The rollout of this new model is expected within the next 8 to 10 months.
In addition, the NWWC will soon introduce a dedicated marine weather bulletin, designed to support fisherfolk, maritime operators, and coastal planners with crucial oceanic and weather information.
“This bulletin will deliver tailored forecasts to marine users and other key stakeholders,” NanLalL noted.
Komal Chand Dhiaram, head of the Climatology Department at the Hydromet Office, shared insights into the intensity and spread of rainfall expected in the coming months:
“The vast majority of Guyana will likely experience above-normal rainfall totals during the wet season,” he said, pointing to a series of updated climate models and maps.
