Students of President’s College, located on the East coast of Demerara benefited after 400 broiler chicks and starter feed was presented to the school’s Agricultural Department by Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha. Additional feed will also be donated to the school as the birds mature. This donation was made after the school’s head teacher wrote to the minister requesting urgent help with restoring the school’s agriculture science department as the students prepared for their CSEC and CAPE Exams later this year.
During the handing over, Minister Mustapha said that agriculture is once again being treated as a very important sector in Guyana and that the H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and the government have been working aggressively to develop the sector.
As part of the assistance given, the ministry through the Rural Agriculture Infrastructure Development Project, will also be executing a series of drainage works, upgrading an access road leading to the school’s farm, constructing a shadehouse and a cattle perimeter fence, as well as planting coconut seedling and establishing a one acre passion fruit plot on the farm.
