Pedestrian, 55, struck down by minibus at Vreed-en-Hoop; driver in custody

A 55-year-old pedestrian was killed on Friday after being struck down by a minibus at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD). 

Dead is Linden Johnson of Lot F-D New Road, Vreed -en-Hoop. The accident occurred at about 18:10h and involved minibus BAB 1624, driven by Claude Pilgrim. 

Reports are that the minibus was proceeding along New Road Vreed-en-Hoop at a fast rate of speed when the driver alleged that Johnson ran from south to north and into his path, causing the left side front of the vehicle to collide with him. 

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the parapet, where he received injuries on his body. 

The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor. 

A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, but no trace of alcohol was found on his breath. 

Johnson’s body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME). The driver is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
