Pedestrian, 69, killed in Rupert Craig Highway accident 

A 69-year-old pensioner was killed on Tuesday after minibus BAD1832 struck her down as she allegedly ran across the road on the Rupert Craig Highway in the vicinity of MovieTowne.

Dead is Kissoondai Sewratan of La Bonne Intention (LBI) Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The incident occurred at about 18:20h. 

It is alleged that the minibus driver was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of the Rupert Craig Highway in the vicinity of MovieTowne when the pedestrian allegedly ran across the road from south to north and into the vehicle’s path. 

The right side front of the vehicle came into contact with the pedestrian, causing her to fall onto the roadway, where she received injuries on her body. 

An ambulance was summoned to the accident scene, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead. 

A breathalyser test was conducted on the minibus driver but showed no trace of alcohol on his breath. 

The woman’s body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a Post-Mortem Examination (PME). The driver is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
