Pedestrian killed by speeding Garbage Disposal truck

An unidentified man is now dead after he allegedly ran across the roadway and into the path of a speeding Puran Brothers Inc. motor lorry along the Stewartville Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

Upto press time, the police were yet to confirm the identity of the now deceased pedestrian.

HGP Nightly News understands that the fatal accident took place around 08:25h on Sunday and that the Puran Brothers Inc. vehicle was being driven by a 30-year-old resident of Anna Catherina village, WCD, at that time.

Reports are that the motor lorry was proceeding East along the Northern lane of the Stewartville Public Road, WCD, at a fast rate of speed when the pedestrian who had been underneath a bus shed “ran out and into the path of the lorry.”

The driver of the vehicle told the cops that he “applied brakes and pull in a Southern direction” to avoid colliding with the pedestrian” but despite his efforts the left front portion of the lorry slammed into the man.

As a result of the impact, the pedestrian fell on to the roadway and received injuries about his body. He was rushed to the Leonora Public Hospital, WCD, where he was pronounced dead by a Doctor on duty.

His body was then transported to the Ezekiel Funeral Home where it is awaiting a Post Mortem Examination (PME).

Investigations into the fatal accident are presently ongoing.
