PM COMMENDS POLICE FORCE FOR REDUCTION IN CRIME

Despite criticisms from the opposition about the current state of affairs of Guyana’s National Security, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo says that he is satisfied with the strides made to reduce crime. Here are the details from Javone Vickerie.

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo was at the time making remarks at the force’s annual luncheon which is mainly attended by the senior members of the force; including the commands of the force. Among the former commissioners in attendance was Seelall Persaud. The Prime Minister asserted that despite the views of the opposition as it relates to Guyana’s national security, it should be noted that the force accomplished a decrease in crime. He stated that the figures presented to parliament illustrating the decrease in crime occurrences are credible. He said the work of the force to decrease crime is proven numerically and as such he urged them to remain the focus.

The Prime Minister stated that in observing the past several months, there has been an increase in the number of prosecutions within the courts for various serious crimes.

It is the hope of Prime Minister Nagamootoo that in 2019, there will be an increase in the number of successful prosecutions in the courts; even those from the Special Organised Crime Unit
