- Three others arrested in bribery attempt
Police in Berbice, yesterday successfully arrested four men who they say are known characters to them. According to Police, they noticed a suspicious car with the four men inside in the vicinity of Queenstown, Corriverton. The police stopped the car and proceeded to conduct a search when the men exited and attempted to elude the lawmen.
One of the men, in his bid to escape, threw away a black bag, which when checked, had a .38 revolver inside. The bag was recovered and a chase ensued, which saw one of the men being captured. He was taken into custody and claimed that he didn’t know the other men in the vehicle but was merely soliciting a lift from the driver.
In a strange twist however, three known characters attempted to bribe the lawmen for the gun which had been earlier retrieved. The police made an arrangement with the men and when they turned up to collect the gun, they were arrested by police. The driver of the vehicle and the other men are still being sought by the police.
