A frustrated mother is speaking out against what she describes as unfair and insensitive treatment by police investigating the recent abduction of her son, 28-year-old Colin Blair, who has Down syndrome.
Patrina Bryant, Colin’s mother, told HGPTV News that investigators have indicated they cannot proceed without obtaining a statement from her son, despite being fully aware of his cognitive limitations.
“They keep saying that he must give a statement before they can move forward, but my son cannot even express himself properly,” Bryant explained.
Colin Blair, who resides at Block F North Sophia, went missing last Thursday. Surveillance cameras captured the shocking moment when two women and a man dressed Colin in women’s clothing at the busy Stabroek Market before whisking him away. The suspects were later arrested by police in Lethem, just as they attempted to cross into neighboring Brazil with Blair.
Bryant noted that her son is visibly traumatized by the experience and urgently wants justice.
“My son is traumatized by what happened to him. I want justice for my child,” Bryant stressed emotionally.
Bryant claims the police have been pushing her around and treating her son more like a suspect rather than a victim, adding to her family’s distress.
“The police keep pushing me around. They’re treating him as though he’s a criminal when he’s clearly the victim,” she said.
Nightly News was informed that only after excerpts from Bryant’s interview were published on social media did police inform the family that Blair would undergo a medical examination, a full seven days after his traumatic abduction.
The family continues to demand justice and fair treatment as they seek accountability for the suspects involved.
