Commissioner of Police Leslie James explained that based on statistical data, the force managed to reduce the occurrences of several categories of crime; which gives an indication that there is progress in the force’s crime-fighting strategy. The Top Cop further stated that the force has also seen its fair share of issues as it relates crime, corruption within the force, and also efforts to increase public trust.Mr. James outlined that in the categories of serious crimes, to date, there were 97 murders recorded as compared with 108 in the corresponding period last year. To expand the capability of the force, another investigative unit will be added.
The Commissioner expressed concern over the number of fatalities that occurred during 2018. He said the statistics are troubling, especially since the holiday season is in progress.
In 2019, the Top Cop said that the force will continue to work with its international partners to strengthen its investigative units. He said engagements this year with an international body has benefitted ranks enormously.
