Police say ‘Sir Mars’ alleged killer had “no visible injuries” when he was arrested

Facing a number of questions regarding its investigations into the murder of long-time educator and actor Kirwyn Mars, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) has backpedalled on its initial report, which stated that the alleged killer fled the scene, leaving a trail of blood stains.

Hours after Mars’ murder, the Police said that investigations revealed that the duo had a “misunderstanding” that escalated inside the vehicle.

“As a result, both parties armed themselves with knives and dealt each other wounds.”

However, five days later, the Director of the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Mark Ramotar, clarified that when the accused, Brian Richards, was arrested two days after the crime, “he had no injuries.”

“The suspect has since cooperated with the Police investigators and has also given a confession,” Ramotar noted.

While Richards was slapped with a murder charge for the educator’s death, his family is contending that he cannot be the killer as he came home around 21:00h on the night of the incident.

But the Police claimed that Mars, 51, was murdered at 22:30h at Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

In fact, the Force released pictures of the suspect and Mars entering and leaving the Green City Bar at the corners of D’Urban Street and Vlissengen Road.
