Police Headquarters on Tuesday noted that 35-year-old police sergeant Quacy Rose of Tatical Services Unit Georgetown remains in custody as the investigation continues for the fatal accident on Sunday at the Berbice River Bridge.
According to reports, motorcar # PPP 2020 driven by 35-year-old police sergeant Quacy Rose and motorcycle # CL 6820 owned and driven by 43-year-old Aubrey Sears got into an accident.
The accident occurred about 17:50hrs on the Berbice River Bridge Access Road, East Canje, Berbice on Sunday 28th August.
Enquiries disclosed that Rose was proceeding east along the northern drive lane at a fast rate of speed while the Sears of lot 298 No. 9 Village West Coast Berbice was proceeding west along the Southern drive lane, also at a fast rate of speed. According to the driver of the motorcar, the motorcyclist rode into his path and collided with the front right side of his vehicle.
“As a result of the collision the motorcyclist fell onto the said car bonnet then onto the front windscreen and onto the road surface and finally ending up onto the southern grass parapet where he received injuries about his body. He was pick up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited persons and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounce him dead on arrival. The body is presently lying at the Arokium Funeral Parlour awaiting post mortem examination.” A police report noted.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of motor car PPP 2020 and same read zero. Notice of intended prosecution was served on the driver of motorcar who remains in custody assisting with further investigations.
