Port Kaituma man hit by speeding driver

The Police are currently investigating a road accident that involved a 22 years old pedestrian from Port Kaituma. According to reports, at about 18:30 hours on Tuesday, August 3, a silver-grey motorcar bearing number plate PZZ 3317 driven by 31 years old Quincy Braithwaite was proceeding south along the eastern side of Floor Main Access Road Port Kaituma in the North West District at a fast rate of speed. Whilst in the vicinity of Leung’s Wash Bay, the driver lost control and collided with Dave Bashier who was about to cross the road from east to west.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian pitched in the air and then landed onto the road surface, where he received injuries to his head and body. 

According to the investigation thus far, Bashier was picked up by the said driver and placed into the said car which took him to the Port Kaituma District Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who admitted him as a patient.

The driver is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and a Notice of Intended Prosecution has been served on him.

Meanwhile, in Regional Division #5, police are conducting investigations into a hit and run fatal accident that occurred on August 01, 2021, on the 22 Bel Air Public Road, West Coast Berbice, in which pedestrian Withfield James, 55 years, of 22 BelAir Village, lost his life.

Information received have led to a Police Constable, who is stationed in that Regional Police Division, being placed under close arrest today, August 03, 2021, after his motorcar was found to have been damaged consistent with a motor vehicle accident that is suspected to be the hit and run fatal accident.

The motor car has been detained as the investigations continue.
