Residents of hinterland communities in Regions 1 and 9 now have access to clean and potable water, thanks to a recent initiative led by the Ministry of Housing and Water.
The announcement was made earlier this week as part of the government’s ongoing effort to improve water infrastructure in remote and underserved areas.
Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all riverine and hinterland communities will soon have independent, reliable water supplies tailored to their unique geography and needs.
“No Guyanese, no matter where they live, should be without safe drinking water,” Minister Croal stated, noting that water access is a basic right and key to public health and development.
The new systems installed in these regions include solar-powered pumps, filtration units, and upgraded storage facilities, which are expected to drastically reduce the reliance on rivers and creeks for daily consumption.
