The People’s Progressive Party Civic is to decide on its Presidential Candidate, shortly. Who will emerge on top is yet to be known, at this time there is no clear front-runner. Handell Duncan is following this story.
At the party level, there is a scheduled general meeting among members tomorrow. It is there that a decision will be taken on whether the party will move ahead with its selection and the subsequent announcement of its Presidential Candidate before that Friday No-Confidence debate or whether the party will do so after Friday. The leader of the Party, Bharrat Jagdeo said, either way, the party will stick to its planned announcement before year-end.
Those interested will have to be nominated, however, the 35 Central Executive Committee will vote through
When the party held its 31st Congress almost 2 years ago, party delegates gave Jagdeo the lead over former Sports Minister, Frank Anthony and Chief Whip Gail Teixeira. However, it’s the hierarchy of the party that will determine its Presidential Candidate in the days ahead. Jagdeo through the CCJ is barred from running for a third term.
