A convicted prisoner at the New Amsterdam Prison, Berbice, is now nursing multiple wounds about his body after he was allegedly attacked with a piece of wood by an inmate on remand at that prison moments after the two (2) men began arguing.
The injured inmate has been identified as Mark Lewis while the perpetrator is said to be Sheldon Smith.
According to a police statement, on Friday (yesterday), the two (2) were in the male dormitory when they had a misunderstanding.
“As such, the suspect picked up a piece of wood and dealt several lashes about the victim’s body causing him to receive injuries. The victim was escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he is being treated.”
Investigations into the matter are currently in progress.
