PUBLIC SECURITY MINISTER TIGHT LIPPED​ ON CHARANDASS PROBE

Chairman of the Alliance for Change Khemraj Ramjattan is also tight-lipped on the details surrounding an investigation launched by the police with relation to former Member of Parliament Charandass Persaud. Javone Vickerie Reports.

At the party’s first press conference for 2019, Minister of Public Security and Chairman of the Alliance for Change Khemraj Ramjattan was grilled by the media about the basis in which police are investigating several claims involving former AFC parliamentarian Charandass Persaud. Mr. Ramjattan was bombarded with a series of questions from members of the media. Among the questions asked, was whether the police was investigating claims of bribery and whether the former party member had any political influences. The Chairman was quick to confirm to the media that as it pertains to the ongoing probe, he is constantly kept up to date with the progress investigators are making.

Minister Ramjattan opined that there is still disbelief in the AFC that Persaud’s vote in the National Assembly on December 21 2018, was a conscious one. He recounted that Persaud’s actions has now left the party with some amount of work to be done.

Mr. Ramjattan further recounted that on the night Persaud was intended to leave Guyana for Canada, the security provided by the police was not used. Instead, according to the chairman, other avenues were utilized.
