Nineteen Neighbourhood Democratic Councils were given new Chairpersons and Deputy Chairpersons as they were sworn into office on Wednesday.
Thirty-seven Elected Chairpersons and Deputy Chairpersons were sworn into their respective offices on Wednesday at the Square of the revolution. Two Neighborhood Democratic Councils were also created; Lamaha / Yarrow and Haruni/ Yarrow Cabra .Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan told the newly elected executives that they should be reminded that with the new era; democracy is being exercised.
Further, the Minister said the constitution has given Guyanese the right to choose their local candidate.
Region 4’s chairman Genevieve Allen said that it could be noted that a high percentage of women and youths were a part of the elections. They were commended for that. Ms. Allen said that with fresh faces and fresh ideas in the NDC’s they should create a new atmosphere for their local councils.
