Police have arrested three men ages 39, 44 and 51 on October 27, in connection with the discovery of cannabis Sativa along with guns and ammo. The police stated that while on patrol the Calabash Creek, Canje, they noticed two males acting suspiciously in a purple, white and orange wooden boat, thereafter having reasons to search the boat.
The ranks stopped the boat and carried out a search when a white salt bag containing three bulky plastic bags wrapped with transparent plastic tape was found with a number of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
They were told of the offence committed and cautioned and they both replied saying, “Officer give meh a chance is a lil hustle.”
They were then arrested and placed in the police boat.
However, about 15:40hrs on the same day acting on information received the same ranks went to a house at Canje Creek, East Canje, Berbice where they saw the 51-year-old cash crop farmer.
The ranks conducted a search in his presence and found a Stevens USA-made 16 gauge shotgun without a number about 4 feet away from his bed. A further search was conducted which unearthed one Russian-made 16 gauge shotgun along with 26 12 gauge cartridges on his mattress.
The suspected firearms and cartridges were shown to him, and he was then told of the offence committed and cautioned, where he remained silent.
He was arrested and escorted along with the two other suspects, the narcotics and firearms to the Central Police Station.
At the station, the suspected cannabis was weighed in their presence and same amounted to 4.5 kilograms.
The suspected cannabis and firearms and boat have been lodged while the three suspects were placed into custody pending further investigations and charges.
