Seaman nabbed with illegal gun, ammo after threatening labourer

A 45-year-old seaman of Enterprise village, East Coast Demerara (ECD), has been arrested after he allegedly used an unlicensed firearm to threaten a labourer at Water Front, Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini) in the wee hours of Tuesday (today).

The incident took place around 00:10h and the labourer, Keith Doris, who is said to hail from the village that the crime took place, made a report to the police about the seaman’s threatening behavior while he (seaman) was brandishing a gun.

According to a police statement, ranks visited the above-mentioned location and the suspect was identified.

“A search was requested and upon consent, carried out on his person. The suspected firearm fell out through his left side pants foot and upon examination, the mentioned ammunition in the magazine of the firearm was discovered. The suspect admitted to not being the holder of a firearm license.”

The suspect was then told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Port Kaituma Police Station where the black .32 pistol magazine and eight (8) live matching rounds were sealed and lodged.

He remains in custody pending charges.
