A security guard is now in stable condition in hospital after he was shot by his co-worker, another security guard, at a Chinese supermarket on the Railway Embankment in Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Wednesday evening, police said in a news release.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Sherwin Young of Plaisance, ECD, while the suspect is a 26-year-old male security guard of Paradise, ECD, who is now in police custody; the victim and suspect are employed with Northwest Security Service, the release further disclosed.
According to police, the suspect was on duty at Ayan Chinese Supermarket at Lot 13 Plaisance Embankment, ECD, armed with one semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun.
Police said around 7:20 p.m., the victim, who is living in the area, went to the supermarket and was talking with the suspect in front of the supermarket.
“Whilst talking the suspect discharge a round from the shotgun which caused the victim to receive injuries to both of his legs. Shortly after, the suspect was trying to clear the firearm and another round was discharged, but away from the victim.
“The victim was picked up by public-spirited citizens, who took him to the GPHC where he is presently admitted a patient in a stable condition,” police said in the release.
