Five persons are facing drug charges
following a big drug bust in Prashad Nagar, Georgetown on Wednesday.
Three seniors citizens- 60-year-old James Hubert, 62-year-old Lena Narine, 72-year-old Jennifer Butcher are among five persons who were arrested after they were busted with more than 20 pounds of cocaine and a number of ecstasy pills. 47-year-old Gregory Faria ( a Surinamese National) and 27-year-old Jamal Narine were also arrested during a Customs Anti Narcotics Unit operation.
According to CANU, on March 29th 2022,
acting on information, a raid was conducted at Lot 295 Shantiniketan Street Prashad Nagar Georgetown which led to the discovery of ten (10) parcels of suspected cocaine and a quantity of multi-coloured pills suspected to be ecstasy.
The suspected cocaine weighed 11.4kgs with a street value of approximately GY$12.5M. The suspected ecstasy weighed 266 grams with a street value of approximately GY$400,000
CANU agents suspect that the packets of cocaine were being prepared for trafficking.
The investigation is ongoing.
