SERIOUS ACCIDENT PUTS MOTORCYCLIST IN HOSPITAL

Police are reporting that on Sunday last (Sunday 16 January 2022), at approximately 09:30hrs, a serious accident occurred on the Cumberland Public Road, East Canje Berbice.

The accident involved motorcar PZZ 30 which at the time was being operated by Keion Young (age 43) of Lot 78 King Street Section ‘B’ Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice and motorcycle CK 128 being operated by Avesh Narain (age 26 years) of lot 54 King Street Cumberland East Canje Berbice. 

According to reports, the motorcycle was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane at a fast rate of speed while the motorcar was proceeding north along the western drive lane at a normal rate of speed. The motorcar then made a sudden turn east into the path of the cyclist who collided with the front right portion of the motorcar. 

As a result of the collision the cyclist was thrown off his motorcycle and onto the road surface where he received injuries to his body. Narain was reportedly knocked unconscious as a result of the collision however he was assisted by public spirited citizens who rushed him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

Narain was examined and treated by a doctor for a fractured right leg and was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he received further treatment before being admitted as a patient. His condition is listed as serious but stable.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar which recorded a zero reading. The driver continues to assist with investigations.
