SHEEREDA PERSAUD, MAHAICA ACCIDENT FATALITY MADE A PASSIONATE SPEECH FOR ROAD USERS TO FOLLOW THE LAW

16-year-old Shereeda Persaud had a bright future ahead of her. Testament to this fact was Persaud’s involvement in Youth Parliament in 2021 where she was the Minister of Home Affairs. During the Parliament debate, the young woman made a passionate plea for road users to follow the law and use the roads safely.

“We call on all drivers, roads users, and citizens to not only obey the law but to also be considerate of their own lives and the lives of those around them,” Shereeda Persaud said during her presentation on road safety.
Clips of her speech sent shockwaves across the country, as Guyanese mourn the loss of the 2021 Youth Parliamentarian.
In the National Assembly, Thursday morning, the Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir extended condolences to the family of the Mahaica accident victims.

On Wednesday, 16 year old Persaud and her boyfriend 21-year-old Christopher Bhagwandat died during a high-speed chase. According to Police headquarters, Bhagwandatat drove away from ranks after being asked to pull over. A Mahaicony Police Station police patrol then pursued the motorcar PNN 8852.
Police claim that as they were pursuing the vehicle on the Mahaica Bridge, the driver pulled right and collided with the force vehicle, which collided with the bridge rail, and both the force vehicle and PNN 8852 collided with a motor canter that was proceeding in the opposite direction. The truck flipped on the side before crashing into another car, a fielder wagon.
Several persons were injured.
