A 44-year-old man and his 53-year-old reputed wife have been arrested after a shotgun was discovered by the police at a mining camp at Turasi Backdam, Cuyuni Mazaruni on Wednesday, according to a police news release.
The names of the suspects were not released.
According to the release, officers were at the time conducting searches on several dredge camps in the Middle Mazaruni area, when they discovered a “pump action shotgun” on the mining camp of the suspects, hidden beneath the mattress on a bed.
Police said the two suspects, who are not licensed firearm holders, were arrested and remain in custody as the investigation continues.
